Carb Loaded + Well Rested + Fresh Music = Good Long Run
The title really says it all. I had three bowls of Peace Maple Pecan cereal with walnuts, a nectarine, and almond milk this morning before downloading new music (will put up a new June playlist soon) and doing some dishes while I digested for an hour.

Then I was off for 7 miles! I ran from my apartment to Red Rocks Park, ran there for a couple miles, and then ran back. It wasn’t a piece of cake but it definitely wasn’t as hard as I had expected it to be! I think it had a lot to do with the fact that I fueled right, my body was well rested, I was listening to new music, and I got a break from the hot sun while running the trails. The park is gorgeous and has a small beach, a gazebo, and grills for BBQing in addition to the trails.
When I got back, I noticed that my tomato plant has its first baby tomato!
Do you see it? It’s a little green ball right in the middle of the picture.
I hope to get better pictures when I get the digital camera I just bought! I haven’t had a camera since I lost mine back in February while snowboarding so I’ve been taking pictures with my Droid Incredible since then! The universe has been in my favor since I’ve been embracing The Secret and Eckhart Tolle’s teachings, though, and my finances turned out to be much better than expected this past month so I could afford to buy one. Another shout out to my mom for helping me out every month this summer as well so I can live the lifestyle I have (I love you, mom)! I live in abundance and it’s because of all the things the people I love have done for me. My bio mama gave me everything by giving me up so I could have a better life, too. I love you mama!
And, by the way, if you’re shopping around for a camera and want some advice, Toby @camerarec on Twitter was so helpful helping me find the best camera for what I was looking for and my budget. I asked him multiple questions, including comparison questions, and he answered all of them super quickly.
Now I’m off to clean some more…my new friend Austin came in while I was sweeping up three piles of mess the ferrets made by knocking over a cereal box and dragging things from cabinets onto the floor and said “Oh! That’s why you’re always cleaning!” because he said I’m always cleaning when he asks me what I’m up to. Yep, ferrets are MESSY little guys—they’re little thieves! I told him I realize now how easily parents get tired of cleaning up after their children. The ferrets only make a mess when they’re out of their cages but you can’t cage kids (actually, you can. It’s called a play pen. I’ve also seen them leashed walking around Disney and such) so it’s 24/7 mess making!
I’m going to my friend Kelsey’s tonight for some home cooked dinner and an episode of the Bachelorette. So excited!
What do you do before you exercise to ensure a good workout?
Carbo loading is seriously the best way to go… When I was training for the half, I had dinner at P.F. Chang’s (vegetarian fried rice) the night before a 12 mile run… Thought I was gonna have a bad run but honestly never felt so good during a long run. I honestly think it was the carbs but who knows :p

Mmmm veggie fried rice! I should start playing around with what foods I run best on. Also, did you do any mid-run fueling? I’m thinking I’m getting close to the time that I should start thinking about how to do that!

I toyed with the idea of Shot Bloks or the GU Gel (because I knew it was going to be available at mile 9 of my half). But I never did either, so during the race I skipped the GU Gel and just focused on getting water and gatorade to drink. Once I am fully recovered and can run again (Now they are telling me I have a stress fracture in my pelvis)… I might try mid-run fueling, especially if I am ever brave enough to take on a full marathon. (I have also heard of ppl eating jelly beans or gummy bears mid-run).

[...] how awesome my run was yesterday and I thought it was due in part to the way I fueled, was well-rested, and had new music? Welp, that [...]

I’ve been eyeing those cereals, do you like them?

I’ve only tried the Vanilla Almond and Maple Pecan. The Vanilla Almond is good but nothing special. I LOVE the Maple Pecan with (added) walnuts, though. A good combination of flavors and texture.
