I Can Do This!
Thanks to the suggestions made via Twitter and on the blog, both Caitlin and I found slogans that we loved to put on our shirts for tomorrow’s 10K, the Capital City Stampede in Montpelier, Vermont.
When I walked through AC Moore’s baking section today I almost died. If I had a gazillion dollars I would just buy the entire store.
I picked up the goods and Caitlin and I got to decorating.

I’m quite happy with the results. Tomorrow should be super fun. It’s Caitlin’s first 10K, my second, and we will have support in the crowd. Lindsay and” “the hubz” are coming as well as Caitlin’s boyfriend and my chocolate boyfriend (her chocolate lab Oakley). I’m excited!
Speaking of Oakley. He got to come hang out today while we crafted so I took the opportunity to take pictures of him (and some of Bear) with my new camera.
I love the one on the bottom left. Oakley is looking at Caitlin’s finger as if he’s thinking “What is she doing?”.
Oh, and, by the way. I know it seems like I love Bear more than Polar because he is on the blog way more than his albino brother but that is not the case! Polar, as you can see by the white to the right of Bear in both pictures, is almost always sleeping and not really into being super social. I love my sweet Polar just as much as I love Bear, I just don’t take as many pictures of him because he isn’t interested. I know he’s cute but I don’t want to be a stage mom and force him to be in the lime light! I also don’t bring him downtown like I do Bear for the same reason that he just wouldn’t enjoy it. I’m not a bad mom I promiseeee!
I also tried my camera out on my tomato and green pepper plants—both which have a little growth goin’ on!
Baby tomato
Baby green bell pepper
And two things for your random news today, both related to beverages.
Old Man Drink
I had a primary care follow up appointment this morning and while I was waiting for the doctor I was reading Men’s Journal and saw this article about gin and tonics.
I was quite happy the “old man drink” made it into the magazine because I get made fun of all the time for drinking this concoction. If I ever get mixed drinks, I usually go for one of these. It tastes sweet and refreshing and I’m less likely to get a headache the next day because it’s clear (that’s my reasoning, anyway!).
Vermonters’ Coffee
I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned on the blog how badly I want to become a Vermonter. It’s a tough club to get into. I think you need seven or eight generations of Vermont blood in your family in order to be considered a Vermonter by some. So, though I have Vermont plates, I live here, my car is registered here, and I’m obsessed with the state, I won’t ever be a Vermonter
. But at least I can feel like a Vermonter! Recently I’ve started drinking coffee sweetened with maple syrup. I saw the option at City Market when getting coffee last week and figured I’d give it a try. ![]()

It was delicious and I haven’t gone back to any other sweetener since! Does this give me a little more Vermont cred? I mean, how much more “Vermont” can you get than maple syrup?!
I’m off to rest for the 10K tomorrow! Wish us luck and good weather!
What’s your favorite mixed drink? How do you make your coffee? Any weird/creative/original combination suggestions?
My favorite mixed drink is a manhattan but is that really a mixed drink? it’s more of a cocktail. I make my coffee in my coffee machine (i’ll teach you some day) or a french press and drink it black 95% of the time. The other 5% I sometimes add agave or soy milk or coconut creamer or almond milk and once in awhile maple syrup but not often.
As for being a Vermonter it’s going to take many years like 20+ of living here for you to be one and even then you aren’t a full one.

Love the Tshirt slogan!
living here, being here, living reasonably, will go a long way in achieving that status sooner than later, maybe 15-20 years instead of 20+
I love being a Vermonter
