If it Aint Broke
Remember how awesome my run was yesterday and I thought it was due in part to the way I fueled, was well-rested, and had new music? Welp, that was true, but I learned the hard way today that there was more I did right that I was unaware of. I waited a little over an hour after I finished my breakfast to digest and I brought my Camelbak so I could hydrate throughout my run (forgot to mention that yesterday!).
I had a pretty carb-y dinner last night so expected not to be too hungry this morning. I planned to only have one bowl of cereal before leaving for my run so I woke up close to when I was planning on going out. Instead I was super hungry and had three bowls! I didn’t have time to wait to digest so I left for a four and a half mile run about ten minutes after. I also didn’t think to bring my camelbak since it was such a short run. Bad idea. I was crampy, bloated, and thirsty! I struggled for three miles before deciding I had to walk, instead of run, back to my apartment. So moral of the story here: If it aint broke, don’t fix it! I’ll stick to what works for me from now on.
I texted my friend Caitlin that I might be later for our plans than expected since it was going to take me longer to walk back. Fortunately she was free and feeling generous so I walked/ran one more mile to get from the path I was on back to the road and she picked me up so I didn’t have to walk all the way home.
At least I only missed a half mile of my training today! And there were two positives I can think of from this experience: 1. I learned more about what contributes to a good run and 2. I saw this little guy on the path!
I wouldn’t have seen him had I been running and I was concerned he might get run over so I moved him to the side. I think teeny turtles are so cute!
When I got back to my apartment I noticed that my pepper plant has its first flower!
Then I cut the babies’ nails. I put a little oil on their bellies to lick so that they’re distracted while I cut their nails. They keep licking even afterwards and it’s so cute the way they sit to get their mouths to the oil on their bellies.
Just chillin’
Then Caitlin and I went shopping at Marshalls (great place for cheap fitness clothing!) for new shirts to decorate for our 10k run. We went to AC Moore after to look at iron-on letters but couldn’t think of anything to write! We were thinking “Hot to Trot” but thought that was too corny. I’m considering representing with “Healthy Balance, Healthy Life” but think that might be too much. We left without any letters with the idea of coming back on Thursday if we thought of something to write. What do you think we should write?
Oh. And I saw this iron-on at AC Moore and had to take a picture.
The rest of the day was spent working with a foster girl. I made her a yummy dinner tonight: Organic semolina pasta with homemade roasted tomato garlic sauce and a salad made of local greens and veggies topped with balsamic vinegar, EVOO, salt and pepper. And an organic yellow mango for dessert. Yum!
Sorry the plate and bowl are glowing for some reason…
I have two questions for you tonight!
1. Do you have any ideas for running phrases/slogans to write on our shirts for our 10k this weekend? What are some of the most memorable you’ve seen?
2. Any tips or rules of thumb for dating and relationships that you go by in your life that you’ve learned? I’m in the process of writing a post about things I’ve learned through dating and relationships and how to be in one/when to break up. One example is “When all your friends think you’d be better off without your significant other/current date, they’re probably right”. What have you learned?
I’m also in the process of putting June’s workout playlist together. Stay tuned!
Where is your 10k this weekend? miss your face

I might be running this race too if I don’t have to babysit! I did it a few years ago, and it was fun though.
